Autumn (of the meteorological variety)

A few things:

Today is the first day of September. How did that happen?!

We jumped from spring to fall here in Chicago. Trying to embrace the crisp cold autumn air and not dwell on the fact that we did not get much sun and warmth this "summer".

Starbucks is debuting their illustrious Pumpkin Spice Lattes and muffins today. I may have broken down and bought a muffin even though I brought a bagel from home. Who could say no?

I ordered my very first coffee maker ever. Sometimes the smallest things remind you that you are a grown up (or should I say, ahhhdult? That probably sounds more convincing). I think it was because I had waited so long to "invest" in a Cuisinart stainless steel thermal coffee maker (the kind one might register for). I am counting down the days until it arrives.

Finished two books last month: The Time Traveler's Wife. So wonderful! Takes place in Chicago - namely right by where my old college campus is located. The book dealt with many themes, my favorite being the concept of becoming. The other book I finished (just last night) was Mudhouse Sabbath: An Invitation to a Life of Spiritual Disciplines by Lauren Winner. Shortly after college she converted from Judaism to Christianity. She sheds light on the spiritual disciplines in the Jewish tradition and believes that we miss out by not incorporating them into our evangelical traditions. A thoughtful read.

This month is a line up of:
1.) The Spirit of the Disciplines by Dallas Willard. I began it just last night, and in classic Willard style, it is already so good and challenging.
2.)To be Told by Dan Allender. It's been far too long since I have read anything by him.
3.)Bonfire of the Vanities is our book club selection for this month. I don't know too much about it, but am looking forward to another work of fiction.

I now know (thanks to an exhange on facebook) that there is a difference between meteorological fall and astronomical fall. Today is the first day of meteorological fall, but you have to wait 21 more days for astronomical fall.

Aren't you glad you know that now? Glad I could shed some light on that for you.

Now, go impress your friends with this knowledge over a pumpkin muffin with some coffee brewed in your state of the art coffee maker all September long!

P.s. anyone read any thoughtful sociological studies lately??

I feel so AHHHHHHHHdult with my cuisinart coffee maker too! It's the mini version though to remind myself that even though i'm an adult, i'm still super poor! :) Lovely blog, my dear.
